The North East of England saw house prices rise 2.6% year on year in June according to the latest LSL House Price Index.
The strong performance was driven by Tyne and Wear where prices were up 4.8%, and Darlington where prices were up 4.4%.
The average house price in the North East in July was £161,488.
Taking the UK as a whole, the house price picture can be summed up as 'slow and steady': house price growth remains at 1.8% for the third consecutive month. The average house price for the whole of the UK is £303,199.
