Manchester

Hi, I’m Greg Davies, Senior Branch Manager for Reeds Rains Manchester and Reeds Rains Salford Quays. If you’re a first-time buyer, I know how exciting – and daunting – it can be to take your first steps onto the property ladder. That’s why I want to share my top picks for the six areas in Greater Manchester I believe will be hotspots for first-time buyers in 2025.

But before we dive in, let me offer you some advice that I give to all my clients: preparation is key.

How to Stand Out as a Buyer

The property market in Greater Manchester is competitive, and being ready can make all the difference. Here’s what I recommend to my clients:

  • Get a Mortgage Agreement in Principle: Make sure your agreement is up-to-date and ready to go.
  • Show Proof of Deposit Funds: Have statements or screenshots ready to confirm your deposit is available.
  • Have a Conveyancer or Solicitor Lined Up: Make sure you know who you’ll be working with and have their contact details ready to share.

If you don’t have these in place don’t panic, Reeds Rains can introduce you to both a mortgage advisor and a conveyancing solution – just ask for more details!

When you’re prepared, it shows sellers and agents that you’re serious, and it puts you in a great position to secure your dream home.

My Top Areas for First-Time Buyers

Now, let’s talk about the areas I think you’ll love:

1. Salford Quays

Salford Quays is a unique waterside location, offering a peaceful setting just 15 minutes from Manchester city centre on the Metrolink. It’s home to MediaCityUK, with fantastic road links to the motorway network and Manchester Airport. With shopping, water sports, and plenty of leisure options right on your doorstep, it’s no wonder first-time buyers are drawn to this area.

2. Newton Heath and Harpurhey

For value for money, Newton Heath and Harpurhey are great choices. Both areas are close to the city centre and have excellent access to the M60 motorway. Plus, there are plenty of parks and open spaces nearby, making these areas a fantastic option for first-time buyers.

3. Hazel Grove

Hazel Grove is one of my favourites for first-time buyers. It’s affordable, has excellent transport links, and offers a manageable commute into Manchester. Stockport is undergoing major regeneration, and Hazel Grove is benefitting from this investment. The traditional “two up, two down” homes here are perfect for those looking for suburban living, with the added bonus of being close to the stunning Peak District. Contact our Reeds Rains Hazel Grove branch to find out more.

4. Hyde

Similar to Hazel Grove, Hyde offers affordability and great transport links to Manchester and Stockport. It’s also close to the Peak District and the Pennines, giving first-time buyers the perfect mix of city convenience and access to the great outdoors. The local property experts at Reeds Rains Hyde can provide more detailed insights into the property market in Hyde.

5. Sale

Sale is a charming town with vibrant neighbourhoods that are very appealing to first-time buyers. The town centre is full of modern restaurants and independent shops, while beautiful green spaces like Worthington Park and Sale Water Park are perfect for relaxing. Thanks to the Metrolink, commuting into Manchester is easy, which makes Sale a fantastic choice for young professionals. See what properties are available for sale with Reeds Rains Sale

6. Manchester City Centre

I know what you’re thinking: isn’t Manchester city centre expensive? While it’s true that some luxury developments dominate the skyline, there are still affordable options to be found. The buzzing job market and endless dining, entertainment, and cultural options make the city centre especially attractive to young buyers.
